I started out the weekend jazzed as could be. I've got a brand spanking new 2000 model Yamaha R6 all decked out with a freshly built Mototune Performance engine, Ohlins rear shock, Sharkskinz bodywork, fresh new lollipop paint job, all the gearing and spares and the whole bit. Ready to take on the world. Well, first race out I promptly crashed the thing and pretty much destroyed it. While dicing for the lead I was forced into a slightly tighter line by my competitor and a backmarker going into turn one. I had a draft behind 2 guys the whole way down the straight and was just booking by the time I got to my brake marker. Between the two factors and missing a down shift in my braking zone it was too much, the wheel locked up and down I went. Damaged equipment: frame, subframe, both wheels, both forks, tank, bodywork, brake master cylinder and all the usual windshields and handlebars. Ouch! No worries though (mate), I hopped on another R6 I'd never sat on before, went out, made up for a piss poor start, worked my way to the front, led it going out onto the last lap then lost my gap from some backmarkers and ended up second at the line. Thankfully salvaging something out of the weekend.
