Leading the first heat qualifier of the day, I highsided heading onto the front straightaway at about 70mph. I went head first into an airbale/tire wall and the bike came crashing in from behind. Apparently I was out for around 45 seconds and groggy for a bit after that. They loaded me into the ambulance and took me off to the hospital. After an MRI brain scan and x-ray action from head to toe, they decided I was alright, which is what I told them in the first place.
Back to the track. When we arrive, the crew is already frantically prepping the bike for the race. I head out into the first main of the afternoon, looking to redeem myself. Of course I'm gridded in row 'X' or something like that (or at least that's what it felt like). I got a decent start and was about 7th or 8th going into turn 1. 4th by the end of lap 1 and 2nd by the end of lap 2. The leader managed to pull a healthy 1.5 second gap on the field by the time I could put my head down with a clear track. I closed the gap in 2 laps and was getting ready for a battle for the lead when I ran a little wide in between a couple turns, put my tires out onto the curbing, and lowsided out into the grass. Talk about frustration, and demoralization, and a whole ton of other words that aren't that nice either.
That's the end of my weekend with nothing exciting in the near future other than a long, lonely drive home and prep for a much needed shoulder surgery the following Friday.
