This report is the type that I wish I got a chance to write more of. It's nice to write about the days that really make it clear and obvious the reason why you put so much energy into the sport. It's kind of strange though, how when everything goes really well, there's not really that much to say.
Just to keep things interesting I rode my 600 from last year (for the first time since last year) as well as my 750. Two bikes in practically every class that I could even enter them in totalled to 6 classes in one day. Here's a breakdown of my finishing positions for qualifying and mains:
600 Supersport Qual - 1st 600 Supersport Main - 1st
600 Superbike Qual - 1st 600 Superbike Main - 1st
750 Supersport Qual - 1st 750 Supersport Main - 1st
750 Superbike Qual - 1st 750 Superbike Main - 1st
Open Superbike Qual - 1st Open Superbike Main - 1st
Formula Unlimited Main - 1st
How's that for a great weekend of racing. I never had more than one qualifier or main between each race, and only took my leathers off at lunch for the whole day. My trusty crewchief Lynsey would clean my facesheild and windshield and do the tirewarmers while I caught my breath and drank some water. My wrench and motor guy Ron Hopkins took care of the fuel and wheel changes with no time to spare between events. Everything went like clockwork. The few times that I didn't get the holeshot I got into the lead quite easily and pulled an easy safe gap to win them all. I even improved my best ever lap time in the final race of the day - 1:08.24.
All of my sponsors made life a whole lot easier for me all season long, but for a weekend this busy I really must give a special thanks to the Tuff Dog Racing crew for everything from letting me thrash on their bikes, to cleaning my windshields and making me lunch, to even tending to my dog at lunch when she got stung by a bee and totally had a fit. You guys rule the school. Ron Hopkins from Ron's Performance Motorcycles flawlessly took care of the wrenches and kept the bikes working (and running) awesome.
There's only one race weekend left for me this season. I've got a great attitude going in, and expect the best. Wish me luck.
