It was one of those strange weekends at the club races when everything goes so well that you almost don't get the same enjoyment out of it. Me and the bike and everything worked together really well. I tried some new suspension settings and found that it really helped as far as tire wear went. Also, with the new AMA and Oregon rules, we're allowed to mill the heads. It was noticeable on the track, and made things a little more fun.
My first qualifier in the morning was a bit of an eye opener. Since we were starting from halfway down the front straight instead of the beginning of it I knew that we'd be able to go pretty deep into the braking zone on the first lap as our speeds wouldn't be up that high. I practised a start from pit lane on the warm up lap to see how deep I could go. I started from the third row, and was still wide open throttle for about 40 more feet after everyone else hit the brakes. I kind of surprised myself a bit, but made the turn without running wide and built a huge lead to win by a mile.
I decided to be a bit more conservative in the second qualifier and actually was in second through the first section of the track (I had to start from the 4th row this time). I got by at the end of the back straight on the first lap and checked out from there.
In the first main I figured I'd better try hard because people would be on fresh tires and maybe someone would be faster than in the morning, etc ... I put together a string of laps in the 1:08.7 and 1:08.8 range, built another huge lead, and coasted across the line for the win.
There were two legs to the second 750 race. I led into turn one for both of them, and drove away from the pack in both of them to take the win.
It definitely felt good to end the day with so much success. I never really let myself be happy about it until the last race was over. It's just kind of weird because there's nothing to really get stoked up about or dig deep for. I wasn't at the limit of my abilities cause there was no one pushing me. I'll take the wins though for sure. It gives me a little boost of confidence before we head down to Sears here next week. I'm expecting to be in top form. Keep your eyes peeled for me down there.
