You know, it’s funny. You’d think that whenever I have a tremendously successful race weekend I’d be all over top of the report, getting it out the very next day even. Well, to prove that I’m a non-conformist – here I am – typing away more than a month after the fact.
Truth is that there’s really not much to report on from that weekend. I never had to race with anyone all day. I basically just got the holeshots and took off for the wins. I won all of the 600 Supersport, 600 Superbike, 750 Supersport and 750 Superbike races handily, setting the fastest lap of anyone at the track the whole day on my 750 (including the open bikes), and stretching out my lead in the race for the #1 plate again.
I’ll be the first to admit that I was struggling with my riding earlier in the year. It wasn’t the bikes; they’re fabulous, and the tires are better than anything I’ve ever run on. I just was all mixed up in my head, and paying too much attention to what was going on around me rather than focusing on my own game. It was really bothering me that the lap times had slowed as much as they did. But I can happily say that I’ve once again “found myself” and am back on my game. I was spending far too much time working hard at components of my riding that were actually detrimental to my overall laptimes. I guess you could say that I was working hard at doing the wrong things right. *hint* my recent improvements are all in the corner entry…..
So I’ve now officially set the terms as to what will be required to take my number 1 plate away. I feel strong, confident, healthy, and I’m having a blast on the bikes. As far as the rest of the season goes; I say “bring it!”
A mammoth thanks goes out to PSI leathers for hooking me up with the coolest set of leathers I’ve ever owned. Full custom cut with the best protection and fit is the norm for these top-shelf units. Check them out next time you see me in the pits, or click the link to see more of the products they offer. Props to the guys out at Columbia River Motosports as well. Not only are the pits always kept alive with good company, great food, and all the help a racer could ask for, but the guys there are very cool – and work diligently to provide the best and most honest service possible. Check them out next time you need anything for your ride (streetbike, roadrace, ATV, moto, offroad, power products…..they got it all. Click the link)
