Superbike Race #2 - 1st

I wasn’t happy about the results from the races the day before, but at least because it was a double header weekend I only had to wait overnight for my chance at redemption.

A number of factors contributed to me making the call to drop my entry in Open Supersport for the day. It was evident the forks on the 1000 weren’t going to work without some new parts, and because the #1 plate is awarded solely on the results of the Pro Superbike class – I decided to focus on that class which runs two races on the day. Plus, Pirelli was actually out of tires! I had to run on some take off tires even to complete the Superbike races!

Pro Superbike race #1 is one of the first races of the day. I now got to start on the front row due to my results from the previous day. I still didn’t quite get the holeshot though, and filed into the first turn in second place. I quickly took the lead two turns later, and set out about my business. By lap three I was stretching out a lead that I just kept building on through the race to win by a safe margin.

I had quite a bit of a rest between races as the second Pro Superbike race they run as the very last race of the day. It was nice though, I got a chance to visit a bit with my family and it was a really nice day out – so not a bad deal to hang out around the pits waiting for my next shot at the competition.

I was really keen to put in a good race for the next event, as this race did double duty. It counted of course for points for the WMRC championship, but also for the newly established Western Canadian Championship (WCC). As I intend to contest the other two weekends that make up that series, this was a big race for me. I wasted no time in doing what I like doing best. I was in the lead within three corners from the start and immediately started putting the hammer down. I put in a string of laps in the first half of the race that nobody could touch to built myself up a strong lead. From there I just put it on cruise control and managed the gap back to second place. I took a very safe win, worked my way back into the hunt for the WMRC championship after having to miss the first round, and established the lead in the WCC championship. Not bad.

Big thanks to Marbod from M-Speed Performance for doing what he could to keep rubber on my rims. But by and large I have to give credit to Orca Bay Suzuki and Suzuki overall for putting together the best bikes out there. Suzuki put on another show of domination this past weekend, winning every single premier class event! Also appreciation goes out to ACME Motowear and Impact Safe-T Armour for outfitting me in crash armour that’s second to none, and VP Fuels for keeping the engines running stronger than anyone’s!
